Applicants sought for Trainee Instructional Designer or Instructional Designer
Any knowledge or experience of e-learning/online learning would be desirable but not essential. You may be a graduate in a related field seeking a career in the e-learning sector or wanting to expand your experience as an ID. You would join our award winning creative production team to help produce courses across a wide range of subject areas. You would benefit from working with our highly experienced senior instructional designers.
Core activities
To help design learning materials to meet the requirements specified (learning objectives) to create performance improving training for customers.
This means:
- Working with subject matter experts and expert users (who actually carry out the task/process to be trained) to gather detailed information
- Talking to members of the target audience to gain an understanding of the best way to meet their learning needs
- Designing courseware for development in possibly a variety of authoring systems to meet the design requirement
- Influence customer expectations
You will need to be able to:
- Write clear, concise and grammatically correct English
- Have a basic awareness of the ‘visual language’ of design (composition, layout)
- Have a basic understanding of how people learn
- Work at a customer’s site (perhaps) and be prepared to fit into their ways of working
- Be flexible about how you design (each project is different and each customer likes to work in different ways)
The key skills you will need are:
Communication skills – you will need to be able to listen carefully to customer needs and translate these needs into clear and creative training designs. You will also need to be able to communicate with a wide range of people.
Design skills – we need people who can be creative, but who can also adhere to the objectives of the training.
People skills – we work in multidisciplinary project teams, so it’s vital that you can work comfortably and effectively with other people in a team atmosphere to achieve a common goal.
